Baked Ziti

In honor of winter which has finally arrived, I decided that tonight we would have one of my favorite dishes... Baked Ziti! This is definitely one of my families favs!

Total Time:50 min

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried ziti pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef or sausage what ever you prefer
  • Kosher salt to taste
  • 3 1/2 cups of your favorite marinara sauce or spaghetti sauce
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan, divided
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan romano cheese
  • 1 pound fresh mozzarella cheese, I use Kraft, but any kind will do
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper or to taste

  • Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, salt generously, and boil the pasta until al dente, tender but still slightly firm. Drain.
Cook ground beef or sausage and mix in your marinara sauce/spaghetti sauce.
In a large bowl, toss the cooked pasta with the ground beef and marinara sauce, . Season with the black pepper and red pepper to taste, and mix until well combined. Transfer the pasta to an oiled 9- x 13-inch baking dish. Cover the top of the pasta with the shredded mozzarella, and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan. Bake until lightly browned and hot, about 30 minutes. Serve immediately.
